Richards Bay residents to protest over municipal rates hike

Irate residents of Eskhawini in Richards Bay say they'll be taking to the streets on Tuesday over an increase in property rates.
They plan on demonstrating outside the uMhlathuze mayor's office - following a memorandum they delivered two weeks ago - which they say hasn't been responded to.

Local resident Sane Dubazane says rates are being hiked despite poor service delivery and the hardships being experienced because of the pandemic.
"Property rates are very high; we are not expecting the municipality to increase rates during a pandemic.
"There is a lack of communication from the municipality, so its all those things that we are really concerned about and we just want the municipality to take action because we are really not happy. It's been happening for fat too long."
