MEC visits Durban school after pupil killed in alleged gang violence

Pupils allegedly involved in gang wars at a school in the south of Durban - have been sent home and told to only come back with their parents.

Gang-related violence broke out on the premises of Folweni High School last week.
It resulted in the fatal stabbing of a grade 8 pupil, allegedly by another learner.
KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu visited the school on Monday.

He says if parents can't help the department, their children will face expulsion.
"Learners have categorised themselves into different groups of gangsters and the situation has really become unstable. There are a number of learners who are now no longer able to attend.
"It's quite a volatile situation, we don't want a situation where a majority of learners attend under fear even teachers are no longer safe. So we need to remove these rotten potatoes if they don't repent."
