RFA slams ‘unlawful’ road closures by oPhongola community
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Road Freight Association has called on government to intervene after community members in oPhongola blocked the movement of trucks in the area.

Residents have been blocking roads since Tuesday, preventing freight vehicles from moving through the northern KZN area.
It's understood the community had in a meeting with the mayor recently, and demanded the close monitoring of trucks to prevent the recurrence of last year’s crash which claimed the lives of 20 school children.
While monitoring was done weeks following the crash, it apparently stopped at some point.
RFA CEO Gavin Kelly says the closing of roads is unlawful and illegal.
”More importantly, it takes the right away from those who have done nothing wrong, those road freight operations who operate safely, who operate in terms of the regulations, who look after communities, who bring work to communities to keep the economy going.
“It takes away from them the ability to operate, to freely operate and do what they need to do.”
