RFA slams N3 shutdown as 'economic sabotage'

The Road Freight Association (RFA) is calling for urgent government action as it likens the shutdown of parts of the N3 to economic sabotage.

In an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the group's Gavin Kelly says the ongoing protests and disruptions of the key route pose a serious threat to investment.

"There are those who are going to decide to move their manufacturing businesses whether they are first, second or third level in terms of manufacturing we will see further unemployment. 


"The minister and his cabinet need to deal with those who wish not to comply and to deal with those who wish to break down this country."   


Truckers blocked the route at Van Reenen’s Pass with their vehicles on Thursday, causing chaos for motorists travelling between Durban and Johannesburg.

The demonstration against the employment of foreign national drivers and soaring fuel prices was the second major protest on the N3 this week.
