Shontel de Boer says residents had been suspicious for a long time.

"Residents have been talking about it in the community groups.  They are happy the police go to the bottom of that one because it's been operating for a very long time.

"A lot of them have lost hope in the police because they have been confidentially giving the police information and evidence and nothing has been happening."

Police rescued the four women on Wednesday night.

They were allegedly lured from Johannesburg to Durban by the promise of a lucrative job opportunity. Police say when they arrived - they were told they'd be working in the sex trade business.

De Boer says residents want more anti-crime raids in the area.

"Some of them have been living for over 30 years in that area and they saw a deprivation of the area and some of them are shocked and horrified that this is happening on their door step."
