Eshowe water contamination not toxic: Umgeni Water
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Umgeni-Uthukela Water says the contamination in Eshowe's Rutledge Dam is non-toxic.
Water has also been fully restored to some rural areas around the northern KwaZulu-Natal town and its CBD.
On Monday, four reservoirs were flushed out due to the contamination.
An investigation was also conducted to determine the source of the pollution and identify it, which was described as a very thick oil.

The water utility's Shami Harichunder says there should be no concern or threat to public health.
"Umgeni Water will be engaging with local farmers to try to better understand the quality of the catchment water that makes its way into the affected dam and we will also be speaking to local communities to seek their assistance in alerting us to any problems that they may discover relating to raw water quality that ultimately makes its way into the dam."
He says the final results of the tests will be available on Tuesday afternoon, which will provide clear indication what the substance was.
