Rebuilding of homes, schools, hospitals key focus – AG
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Auditor-general Tsakani Maluleke says the rebuilding of homes, schools and hospitals in flood-devastated KwaZulu-Natal will be one of their key focus areas.
Auditors are monitoring government's use of flood relief funds aimed at getting the province back on its feet.
"The key programmes that we will focus on will be within the human settlements section, the temporary residential unit. We will also look at new houses being built.
"We will look at the infrastructure repair and rebuild efforts at schools, hospitals as well as water and sanitation. We will also look at programmes around the railway and on roads."

Maluleke says their real-time audits will effectively track government's rebuilding efforts in KZN and the Eastern Cape by monitoring how much money's been allocated to projects and the amount being spent.
"Accounting officers can take corrective actions swiftly so that they protect resources against further fraud or wastage and they can correct their implementation programmes so that these programmes are roll-out as designed so that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries on time."
Maluleke addressed Parliament on their audit framework for the province this week.
