Rape survivor encourages victims to speak out

A rape survivor has made a plea to men who target and attack women.

Mandisa Madikane was raped at the age of 6 and again at the age of 21 after her drink was spiked.
"I forgot about what people wanted to say and what people were saying around me. People are always there to talk," she said.
Relaying her own experience during the closing plenary of the Higher Education Aids conference at the Durban ICC, the HIV/Aids activist encouraged rape survivors to speak out.

"I gave birth to a beautiful boy named Samkelo - which means acceptance. I was in denial of my pregnancy. I love him more than I love myself. For him, I swallowed my pride as a lesbian woman," she said.
Madikane who is also a filmmaker has recently finished her second documentary, about being a pregnant lesbian in the township.
