The child and the 34-year-old man were traced to Richards Bay by the SAPS and response officers of Reaction Unit South Africa on Tuesday evening.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa, the child's parents raised the alarm after realising her clothes and a bag were missing on Tuesday morning.

It's understood the parents approached their neighbour for help - only to be told by the man's wife that he too was missing.

The child's family is said to have been worried she was being sexually groomed and had been coerced into leaving home.

Police says the girl's mother successfully opened the case on Wednesday.

The matter is being investigated by the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The man hasn't been arrested, and the girl is back home with her parents.
