Prosecutors say a Phoenix teacher will head back to court on 29 October - as investigators continue with their probe into allegations of rape against him.

Detectives say a 15-year-old's guardian became suspicious after finding a cell phone in the child's possession - with messages from the 44-year-old suspect.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says according to the girl, it was given to her by a friend of the family.
"On Tuesday, Phoenix police arrested a 44-year-old male. It is alleged that the victim was rape since 2019," says Gwala.
The NPA says the teacher - who's been charged with statutory rape - was granted bail in the Verulam Magistrate's Court this week.
