Ramaphosa made the comment while on one of his morning walks in Soweto earlier.

He says it is important that all eligible citizens are on the voters' roll and that their details are correct.

"We will be going door-to-door asking our people to vote, asking our people to go and register because the next elections are going to be very important. Right now, it doesn't matter which party you belong to as long as you register to vote," he said.

The IEC is running a voter registration drive this weekend.

South Africans can check their personal details and addresses on the voters' roll at their nearest polling station.

Voting stations opened at 8am this morning.

The registration drive wraps up tomorrow evening. Voting stations open at 8am and close at 5pm on both days.
