Ramaphosa made the comments in his weekly Monday newsletter to the nation.

This year’s exams have been marred by disruptions due to an extended lockdown as  a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The lockdown saw most students across the country miss out on learning for at least four months in an effort to slow down the spread of Covid-19.

Despite these challenges, more than 1 million learners are expected to write their final examinations to qualify for their national senior certificate.

“At your tender age, there are so many demands upon you. There are the pressures of rigorous study, the pressure to excel and to achieve the results you need to study further. And yet you have come this far.

“When you enter the exam room in the days ahead, you will be carrying not just your own hopes for success and those of your families. You will also carry the hopes of us, the South African people.

“We are immensely proud of you and wish you the very best of luck.”

The Class of 2020 will write their final paper on 15 December.
