The Grade 10 pupil died on Tuesday after a private hire bus transporting soccer players overturned on the N3 at Town Hill, outside Pietermaritzburg

The teams had been travelling from the Midlands private school to Kearsney College in Botha's Hill for fixtures.

More than 40 other people - including staff - were hurt.

The police's collision unit and the Department of Transport is investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Michaelhouse rector, Greg Theron says the school's management has also commissioned an independent investigation.

"We've spoken to our insurance agency, and we've stayed in touch with our legal team and been in touch with the bus company concerned.

"We've appointed an independent investigator into the scene. We believe we're well versed into what happened on the day. We haven't received final reports yet and we look forward to those," he says.

The 16-year-old Dloti will be laid to rest in Johannesburg next week.
