Michaelhouse pupil 'will be sorely missed'
Updated | By Portia Cele
Michaelhouse rector, Greg Theron says 16-year-old Themba Dloti will be sorely missed by all.
"He was sporty, a very popular and bright boy. We just had a chess event. He had lots of friends and had a big smile, always. The boys are missing him already," Theron says.
Dloti, a Grade 10 pupil at the Midlands private school, died on Tuesday after a private hire bus transporting four soccer teams to Kearsney College in Botha's Hill, near Hillcrest overturned on the N3 at Town Hill.
Initial reports are that the vehicle crashed after suffering a blow-out, however police and transport officials are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
Nine pupils and one staff member are still recovering in hospital.
"They're being visited in hospital and they are all making progress. There are a couple of boys who are fairly badly injured who will continue to battle through the next few days. We hope that they are going to be alright," Theron says.
A memorial service for Dloti will be held at the school's chapel at midday tomorrow.
Theron says the incident has brought the Michaelhouse community closer.
"Yesterday, we had services for the boys. We also brought in a number of psychologists. The boys themselves have drawn together. They're very sombre but they're getting on with the business of the day," he says.
