Public Works Minister orders probe in Ballito collapse

Public Works minister, Sihle Zikalala, has called for a thorough investigation into a fatal construction site incident in Ballito on the north coast.

Four workers died after a bank collapsed at a residential construction site on Zen Drive on Saturday.
Search and Rescue personnel worked for hours to retrieve the bodies of the workers who were trapped under the sand.
The sole survivor who was found some six hours later is currently recovering in hospital.

Zikalala has raised concerns about the rising numbers of incidents occurring at construction sites in the country.
" This talks to the quality of work especially the investor and we are not going to allow that situation."
"We are going to tighten the monitoring as we said that even the private sector must be subjected to the CID process. On top of that we will ensure that professionals follows the standards that are set."
