Provision of basic services should top SONA agenda, says analyst
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
An analyst wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to announce concrete plans to address serious challenges around the provision of basic services when he delivers the State of the Nation Address.
The president is due to deliver his annual address in Cape Town on Thursday evening.
"There is a serious problem with water. People are paying for services, and the government hasn't done a good job to make sure that it delivers when it comes to services like water and electricity. Another big problem is potholes. It’s about making sure they maintain the infrastructure, the drainage system, which is badly affected by heavy rains,” says political analyst Zakhele Ndlovu.

Ramaphosa will deliver his final SONA before the country heads to the polls later this year.
Ndlovu says he'll need to focus on the rolling blackouts we've been subjected to for years and their impact on our already shaky economy.
"I think he needs to talk about the problem of load shedding. It's costing our economy billions of rands and it's discouraging our investors, trying to invest in South Africa to try alleviate the problem of unemployment."
