Provincial govt to shine a spotlight on abuse during the 16 Days of Activism campaign
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A society that is inclusive - regardless of gender or age. That's the long-term vision for the province through the launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign
The Provincial Government will launch its campaign under the theme: 'Count me in, together moving a non-violent South Africa forward.' The campaign will be launched in Bergville today.
The Office of the Premier's Ndabezinhle Sibiya has called on the KZN province to unite and support the cause.
"The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is going to form part of the build-up activities to World AIDS Days. And we are saying we condemn any form of rape and abuse against children. The people of KZN must unite, and work to create a strong KwaZulu- Natal economically and socially," he said.
Meanwhile, the ANC Women's League says women are starting to talk more openly about abuse in South Africa.
The organisation says people are opening-up about cases of abuse against women and children that previously went unreported.
The league says one incident of crime is too many.
As part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, the ANCWL says it will educate young women across the country about their rights.
