Protests hit several areas of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality

Community protests have hit different parts of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
The action erupted on Thursday night.
South Coast areas affected are Murchison in Port Shepstone, Umtanvuna Bridge in Port Edward.
Cut-down trees have blocked roads, and trucks have been left in front of the bridge.
A truck, believed to be carrying alcohol, was also burnt last night.
According to Ward 1 councillor Stephanie Breedt the disruption is over water and electricity.
She says the protest is still active.
"There is one particular road that has been a problem for years now, it's called the D 1097, and it runs from the R61, which is the main road, running from Port Shepstone to Port Edward.

"That road has been in a terrible condition, and the community has been promised that it would be resurfaced for a long time, but the promises are not being kept. So, I think the community is angry about the road and they are also angry about not enough electricity being supplied to them."
Craig Botha from KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service says his paramedics were blocked from attending to a patient in Murchison.
"Last night, we were not able to actually attend to a patient that was in a serious condition and required urgent medical attention to get to hospital and be stabilised.
"We have still, as of yet, had no access to that patient, and we are waiting for the all-clear to be given so that our paramedics can safely attend to this patient and safely transport that patient back to the hospital.
"It is exceptionally dangerous for our paramedics. With these situations, we are faced with an unwillingness of the protesters to allow healthcare workers through."
