Protesters disrupt registration at DUT campus
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Striking workers at the Durban University of Technology's ML Sultan campus have chased students from registration points.

This parent was standing in the registration line with her daughter earlier.
"She was blocked out of the system. We went to ML Sultan where we had to stand in a queue so that she would be unblocked so that she can register. The guys that were striking came out of the meeting. It just got very wild there - they were throwing bins and started chasing students," she says.

The university's Alan Khan has confirmed the disruptions, saying negotiations with the unions have deadlocked.
He says 11 000 students have already been registered for 2018 and that registration remains open.
"Online registration is open - and students are registering online. We also have on campus registration at the Riverside campus in Pietermaritzburg and in Durban. Earlier this morning, there were disruptions. We hope for a sense of normality soon on campus," he says.
