Protesters block Umgeni Road interchange

UPDATE: Police say the #UmgeniRoad interchange where protesters were blocking the M19 has been re-opened to traffic in both directions.

Earlier, protesters blocked the M19 with burning tyres. 

Metro Police say the roadway is closed to traffic in both directions. 

On and off-ramps from the N2 are also affected. Motorists can use the Inanda Highway to bypass the scene. 

SAPS spokesperson, Thulani Zwane, says they have received reports that some people have also been throwing stones at vehicles.

"About 50 community members are protesting, complaining about service delivery in the area. They are blocking roads and burning tyres as well as stones. There have been no damages or injuries reported so far but the police are there at the scene. They are monitoring the situation," he said. 

Meanwhile - Dickens Road, near Amanzimtoti, has also been closed due to protest action.

In a separate incident, a woman has been killed in a head-on collision on the R-102 in Mount Moriah - north of Durban. 

Crisis Medical says the driver of the car died at the scene.

The bakkie driver was treated for moderate injuries.
