Metro says a vehicle was torched earlier in the vicinity of Sea Cow Lake and Gumtree roads north of Durban.

About 20 people are also burning tyres in Quarry Heights Drive towards Queen Nandi Drive in Newlands East.

Motorists are being urged to avoid these areas. Officers say the M19 is clear but there is still debris on the road from protest action last night.

Metro has given the N2 the all clear this morning.

Several violent protests erupted yesterday north of Durban with communities angry over ANC candidate lists ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Meanwhile a protestor, who didn't want to be named told Newswatch late yesterday they will be back on the streets this morning if they don't receive a response from the ANC.

''There's no one who came and addressed people about their demands,'' he said.

Contrary to the ANC in KZN stating it has attended to all grievances relating to the selection process of candidates for the upcoming elections, protestors say their demands have not been met.

''The people can't stop so you can't think this thing will stop tomorrow or next week because there is no one who came from the office to come and address the people there,'' he said.
