Police say protests in the Mkhuze area in northern KZN have escalated.

Groups of workers taking part in the protest are now moving towards Nongoma. Earlier, the N2 freeway was affected.
The police's Thulani Zwane is urging motorists travelling through the area to be vigilant.
"We can confirm that the protesters that were protesting along the N2 near Mkhuze have moved. Now, they are on the Nongoma freeway. They are blocking the roads using burning tyres and stones. They are also becoming violent. We are appealing to motorists using the roads between uLundi and Nongoma, Nongoma and uLundi to avoid using that route for now," he says.
