Protest action brings Estcourt traffic to a standstill

Protest action over service delivery has flared up in Estcourt this morning.
Some disgruntled residents blocked the R103 and Mimosa Dale road with burning tyres and tree branches.
Estcourt Metro Police spokesperson Philip Hellerle says the protest action brought traffic to the standstill.
Its believed residents are unhappy with ongoing power and water supplies in the region.

Motorists have been urged to take alternative routes.
"The roads going out of Estcourt town is blocked. If people want, they can still come in via the freeway. The roads are blocked between the hospital area - nobody can get there. The roads are blocked with trees which were burned earlier on."
