In a separate incident, the body of a nine-year-old boy who also drowned was recovered on Thursday evening.
The child had gotten into difficulty and disappeared underwater while swimming in a river in Ndwedwe.
"Teams deployed to the area and searched until one o'clock in the morning. Unfortunately, the body was not located," says IPSS Medical Rescue's Samantha Meyrick.
Search and rescue teams from both IPSS Medical Rescue and SAPS K9 division returned to the river the nest day. We were able to recover a nine-year-old boy bringing closure to the family."
