Premier to meet eThekwini officials as EPWP strike continues

KZN Premier Thami Ntuli says he will meet with eThekwini officials after waste collection and street sweeping services were halted this week.

Disgruntled members of the Expanded Public Works Programme launched protests to voice their anger over the apparent termination of their contracts. 

 

The group blocked gates at various depots. 

 

Speaking at the conclusion of the government's two-day Lekgotla on Wednesday, Ntuli said the cabinet has committed to resolving the challenges at eThekwini Municipality as soon as possible.

"We have also instituted section 154, a support intervention, which is a provincial government decision, wherein we measure to ensure the situation is indeed turned around. 


"We are interested to see eThekwini Municipality resolve some of the major challenges they're facing, particularly in the provision of water and sanitation services as well as the removal of solid waste."
