Pregnant woman among 12 killed in Wartburg accident

A massive emergency operation's underway, following this morning's horror crash near Wartburg.

10 women and two men lost their lives when a combination truck, transporting fuel, collided with a minibus taxi at the R614 turn-off, on the R33.
It's understood one of the victims was a pregnant woman.
Spokesperson for the Road Traffic Inspectorate, Zinhle Mngomezulu says fuel spilled from the wrecked truck, leading to a road closure and major delays, to and from Maritzburg on the R33.

"It is not going to be open anytime soon because we have got a diesel spillage and oil," she said.
"The road is going to be closed for another hours or so. Emergency services are currently busy with the clean-up."
Meanwhile Transport MEC, Bheki Ntuli is on his way there. He'll receive a full briefing from investigators when he arrives.
Ntuli has confirmed that five people have survived the accident.
