Prasa warns of heavy fines for littering on railways
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Durban businesses that continue to dump waste on railway lines stand to lose their operating licences.

That's the warning from the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.
The agency's spokesperson in KZN, Zama Nomnganga, says most of the culprits are factories around the Durban city centre.

PRASA and eThekwini Municipality on Tuesday cleaned up the litter strewn on the railway line from Durban Station to Berea.
Nomnganga says anyone who is caught damaging State infrastructure will face serious repercussions.
"It is affecting our signalling because, at the end of the day, not anyone is allowed to tamper with government infrastructure.
"Whoever is caught, a person will be jailed, and a fine of R100 000 will need to be paid, or else we will take your licence, and you won't operate any businesses around KZN."
