Prasa addresses concerns over train delays in south of Durban
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa says there have been no major planned delays concerning train services in the south of Durban.
One of two passengers - who commute daily from Umlazi to work by Metrorail trains - was reportedly fired after arriving late at work, News24 reports.
The other passenger, a trainee engineer, has reportedly received a number of warnings from his employer for late arrival.
The agency's Zama Nomnganga says they try to ensure commuters are informed about any scheduled delays.
"We do experience those kinds of delays. Remember, we operate on aging infrastructure. Sometimes, people cause those delays by stealing cables, vandalising points where the trains run. For sure, we will have delays because we now have to stop the trains and make sure that we have things fixed by our technical personnel.," Nomnganga said.

Nomnganga says they do have communication systems in place.
"We also use our partners - like the media. We also have notices that we send to various stations where we operate. Most of our delays are planned - we call them planned occupations where we are fixing infrastructure and ensure that we tell people in advance. Most times, we do those maintenances during the weekend - when it's not as busy," he adds.
