Police and Prisons Civil
Rights Union (Popcru) says it's tired of ministers attending the funerals of slain cops and
consoling their families, but not solving the problem of police murders.
The police union says the recent spate of killings has left officers feeling vulnerable and unsafe.
In the latest incident, KZN warrant officer Roger Mavundla, his wife and two children were shot while inside their car in Nzimakwe on Saturday.
A third child is recovering in hospital.
Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says the SAPS needs to be more proactive than reactive.
Mamabolo says they're calling for a high-level panel to be urgently set up to probe the killings.

"Over the past years, we have had an increase in police killings. Just last year alone we had about 38 officers killed even some that were off duty.
“So this seems that this is a trend that continues. We know the warrant officer was killed and his three others from his family were killed. We know that the other relative is in hospital which is worrying."
