POPCRU demands danger allowance increase
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union wants the danger allowance paid to officers to be increased on an annual basis.
Police Minister Bheki Cele recently announced a R300 a month hike in danger pay from April.
But the union says it's not nearly enough.
POPCRU spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says based on what they discussed and agreed with government, the allowance should be at R1 500 a month.

"When entered in agreement with the safety and security sector bargaining council in 2001 wherein we agreed on a danger allowance set at an amount of R400 and what that agreement entails is that the danger allowance will increase on a yearly basis in line with the consumer price index including the cost of living adjustments and other frequency of the dangers that these officers face.
"Now, since that time up until now, there has not been an increase."
