Popcru concerned about video of 'drunk KZN officer'
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has expressed
concern about the "negative imagery" of police officers in the
country.
This comes after a video of a drunk Kwazulu-Natal police sergeant, dressed in uniform and still armed went viral on social media.
The officer can be seen clinging to a wooden pole before falling down as a schoolgirl tries to help him.
The spokesperson for the union Richard Mamabolo said that they cannot comment on the circumstance surrounding the incident but they are worried about the negative impact on the public perception of police officers.
“We are as a union concerned about the negative imagery that has been portrayed on policing in the country.
“The facts around what could have possibly been occurring, or the influences thereof are yet to be determined, so until they are fully understood, we cannot comment on it.

Mamabolo adds that they will continue to work hard to educate members about the importance of fulfilling their constitutional mandate.
“It is important for members to conduct themselves in a manner that inspires confidence among communities.
“Because if we are to have an impact in fulfilling our constitutional mandate of keeping South Africans safe and secure, there need to be good working relations between police and communities.”
