Political parties want criminal action taken against those implicated in SIU report

The Health Department's move to place six more officials on precautionary suspension following the Digital Vibes tender scandal “is just the tip of the iceberg”.
So says political parties who've been reacting to government's response to the release of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report this week.
The probe has found that the awarding of the R150 million contract to the KwaZulu-Natal-based firm for communications work was irregular.
The company's understood to be run by the former personal assistant and spokesperson of Zweli Mkhize, who stepped down as health minister in August.
Several other officials, including Director-General Sandile Buthelezi, have been implicated.
"We need to see criminal investigations take place with the NPA and we need to see people being held accountable and prosecuted for crimes that they have committed," says the Democratic Alliance's (DA) Siviwe Gwarube.
The Inkatha Freedom Party's (IFP) Inkosi Elphas Buthelezi says all those implicated must be held accountable.
"It's not enough to just suspend them. I think they must be suspended and they must not be paid while they are suspended until their matter is finalised.
"All that we want to see is the process that we need them into jail because as the country, we can't afford this prolonged processes which does not actually come to a logical conclusion."
