Political parties react to Msunduzi Municipality administration

Political parties in KwaZulu-Natal have applauded the decision to place the corruption-ridden Msunduzi Municipality under administration.

Co-operative Governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube made the announcement yesterday.
She said it become clear that the municipality was no longer able to guarantee service delivery to residents on its own.
Parties say the decision was long overdue.
ANC's spokesperson Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says believes it was necessary.
"We believe the MEC took the right decision because everyone who is in council has a responsibility to provide services to the community regardless of which political party that municipality belongs to."

The DA's premier candidate, Zwakele Mncwango says anyone linked to corruption, should face jail time.
"We now believe that the administrator will be able to initiate forensic investigations on all tender procurement in 2016, and even before then."
The IFP's Narend Singh says they wonder why it took the MEC so long to make the decision.
"What we do tend to see in municipalities that are not controlled by the ANC and other parties, like the IFP - there is always haste to place them under administration," Singh said.
The EFF's Vusi Khoza feels the officials in the ANC-led provincial government were forced to act.
"That municipality was on the verge of embarrassing the ANC. But we are watching them and we know what they are up to. We will be monitoring the situation very closely as the EFF."
