Political parties given until next Friday to submit nomination details

Political parties have been given until next
Friday to submit their nomination requirements for the May elections.

The names of all preferred candidates will need to be with the Independent Electoral Commission by that date.
"On the 8th of March, parties must pay their election deposits, must submit their list of candidates, and must give us notice that every person who's on the list of candidates is compliant and that they are found by the election timetable,” the IEC’s CEO Sy Mamabolo said on Monday.
The Independent Electoral Commission briefed the media on its rollout plan as the country counts down to voting day on May 29.

Mamabolo said candidate compliance is a must for parties contesting the elections.
"There's a whole process of publishing that list, receiving objections, evaluating those objections against the constitutions and the law and then finally publishing those lists. Then, on the 10th of April, we will tell the country who the candidates are, who qualified to stand for election this year."
