IEC announces dates for special votes, home visits
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Special votes and home visits for this year's general elections will take place on 27 and 28 May, according to the Independent Electoral Commission.
The IEC says the closing date to apply for special votes is 3 May.
Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo held a briefing on readiness for the 2024 elections on Monday.
He said South Africans who are currently overseas and are registered to vote don't need to give notice that they'll be voting in the country they're in.

"The law assumes that they will be voting at the diplomatic mission of registration. However, those registered elsewhere, including locally registered voters who intend to vote at a particular diplomatic mission outside of the country, must give notice to the CEO of the intention to vote in that country. The notice to vote out of the country may be submitted as of today until the 22nd of April."
