First conviction in Glebelands murders
Updated | By Natarah Nadesen
A hitman has begun serving a life sentence for murdering a Glebelands Hostel resident, making him the first person to be convicted for the deadly violence plaguing the Umlazi complex.
28-year-old Mxoleleni Bhani, who also lived at Glebelands, was handed the punishment in the Durban High Court yesterday. He shot Sipho Ndovela two years ago.
He also shot and wounded a man at the hostel a month after killing Ndovela.

The police's Thulani Zwane says Bhani was given another 12 years for attempted murder.
Zwane says police caught Bhani when he attended a court appearance in Umlazi.
"We are very pleased with the sentence handed down to Mxoleleni Bhani, Ndovela was at the Umlazi's court premises when he was attacked by the hitman. The accused was arrested while he was attending another case at Umlazi Magistrate's Court when he was arrested. He was then charged with these two incidents," he says.
