Police probing cause of fatal Phoenix flat fire

KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating the cause of a fire that killed a woman in her flat in Phoenix.

Firefighters were called to put out a blaze on the third floor of the Wareham Place property on Monday.
KZN police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo says two African grey parrots, thought to be the woman's pets, were also killed.

"On arrival at the scene the entire building was on fire. The eThekwini Fire Department was called to the scene.
"After extinguishing the fire a body of a 33-year-old female, which was burnt beyond recognition, was found lying on her stomach.
"An inquest docket was open at Phoenix for further investigating."
