The Department of Social Development of KZN's spokesperson, Mhlabunzima Memela, says the mother noticed that something was wrong when she fetched her two-year-old girl from crèche on Friday.
"When she went to check the child of what could have happened to her shoe found that the child was raped, and she called the neighbour, and they called the police."

Memela says many in the community are incensed.
"They visited the creche, and we were informed that they were demanding answers of what could have happened to the child.
"We are hoping that the matter will be handled correctly together with the police and our team of social workers. One of the things that always worries us is that some of these crèches are not registered."
