Police on high alert amid shutdown threats
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) says it's on high alert following threats of a possible national shutdown on Friday.
Messages and posters have been circulating on social media calling for a protest over high fuel prices.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says NATJOINTS has been briefed by the Intelligence Coordinating Committee on the validity of the threats.
She's given an assurance that they're closely monitoring the situation and the associated risks.
