A female police officer in full uniform has been gunned down by a group of armed men in Durban's Bonela area.

Police say the 39-year-old had been waiting for transport near the intersection of Bonela Road and Eskotene Grove when the four men approached her and opened fire at about 6am today.
Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says the suspects fled the scene after taking her firearm and bag.
"For now, the motive is unknown. Although the firearm was taken, police are still at the scene continuing with their investigation," she says.
