Police officer arrested in connection with tavern robbery

A cop is among three suspects who have been arrested in Durban following an armed robbery in Hibberdene, on the South Coast.
Yesterday, the Hawks arrested the police officer - who is alleged to have been part of the tavern robbery which took place on Monday night.
Three men entered a tavern and held the owner and his employees at gunpoint.

They allegedly took cellphones before grinding an inside ATM open and making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The Hawks' Simphiwe Mhlongo says police were called and fire was exchanged with the suspects.
He says a firearm belonging to the officer was found at the scene.
"Later on the policeman was later arrested at Umlazi police station, where he was opening a case of robbery. And then another investigation lead to the arrest of the suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, as well as a police rifle," he said.
