Police monitoring Murchison area following violent protest

Police in KwaZulu-Natal remain on the scene of a violent protest that erupted in the early hours of this morning near Murchison - south of the province.

Traffic is currently diverted through - Port Edward and Nyandezulu.
Disgruntled community members - have blocked roads in Boboyi and Murchison - that's near Port Shepstone - with sand, debris and burning tyres.
The protest is now in its third day.
The police's Thulani Zwane says officers found the roads obstructed with huge rocks - preventing access to all vehicles.

Reports have also come through that students at the Enyenyezi Technical College in Murchison - have also been unable to continue writing exams.
Zwane says community members are complaining about ongoing water issues.
"Our police officers are still in the area - monitoring. So far, there are no damages reported and no arrests made. The protesters are also being monitored by police."
