Some of the fans assaulted the security guards who were trying to stop them.

There was also damage to stadium property estimated at two-point-six million rand.

The KZN SAPS Head of Communications, Jay Naicker says members of the public have been helping to identifying the culprits.

"Our detectives are working around the clock to get enough statements to link the suspects. There were a large number of suspects picked up by the CCTV cameras as well as the television cameras in the stadium. Our biggest challenge is getting people to come forward and give us positive identification on the suspects," Naicker said.
