Police are on the
hunt for a gang of armed robbers in Pietermaritzburg and have activated their
72-hour plan.
A suspect was killed, and a bystander and a security guard were wounded in a botched heist in the CBD on Monday.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says a group of four suspects targeted a cash guard loading a vehicle on Church Street.
"Reports indicate that the security guard had just collected money from the store and was on his way to the armoured vehicle where he was accosted by one armed suspect.
“A shootout allegedly ensued between the guards and the suspect, and the suspect was fatally wounded. One security guard was shot and taken to hospital for treatment."

Netshiunda says a woman, who was in a car nearby, was also caught in the crossfire.
"A bystander was injured when a stray bullet went through her vehicle. Three suspects fled."
