Police deployed to Mandeni school, internal exams put on hold

The KZN Education Department says police officers have been deployed to Imbuyiselo High School in Mandeni following faction fights among some pupils.

The department says a matric pupil was admitted to hospital after he was involved in the fight over the weekend.
The department's Scelo Khuzwayo they intervened to ensure the matric exams are not disrupted.
"With regards to other learners, particularly those who are writing internal examinations, we have since decided that those should be suspended for now until the situation is back to normal. With regards to those who are writing their Grade 12 exams, we have engaged police. They are indeed on site," he says.

Khuzwayo says recently a matric learner at the school had to be escorted by police to write his exam as he feared for his safety.
