PMB’s Henley Dam bridge closed for construction
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
The low-level Henley Dam bridge in Pietermaritzburg has been closed from today for the construction of a new structure.

Three family members drowned when their car was washed off the low-lying bridge on New Year’s Eve.
Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla says they've taken the decision to close the bridge because it poses a danger to life.
"The reason why we are closing that bridge, is because we value lives, we really don't want to lose any more lives and of course our sincere condolences to those who have lost lives. As a result of that bridge. Please don't use that bridge if you are not sure but now, we have permanently closed it."
"We are busy building a bailey bridge, we anticipate that by the end of March that project should be complete."

The City has also warned against engaging in any water-related activities near Henley Dam due to rising water levels.
It says there's a serious threat to people living nearby due to strong currents and unpredictable conditions.
