The NPA says 29-year-old Njabulo Ndlovu pleaded guilty to three charges of murder and two counts of rape in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday.

Sixty-five year-old Zanele Ndlela, her 46-year-old daughter, Simangele and eight-year-old granddaughter, Zenande were found stabbed and strangled in their home in Sobantu.

Police later arrested Ndlovu, who was last seen with the victims earlier that day.

In his plea, Ndlovu told the court that after spending the night having drinks at the victims' home, the elderly woman asked him to leave and he refused.

He says the grandmother came into the room that he was in with Simangele, brandishing a knife.

Ndlovu says a scuffle ensued and he stabbed and strangled the elderly woman to death.

He told the court that he then strangled Simangele and killed her before raping the child and also strangling her.

Sentencing proceedings have been postponed to 21 July.

Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza was again at court.

"In fact, it was just inhumane to do the things he did."
