In order for them to safely carry out the work, pumps will be shut from 8am to 4pm.

City spokesperson Mswakhe Mayisela says some of the areas that will be affected include Hambanathi, Tongaat CBD, Emona Township, Metcalfe and Ghandi's Hill.

"We are doing this so that we do not have challenges in the future with regards to issues of electricity or power supply.

"So it is therefore of paramount importance that we embark on this operation. We are therefore appealing to the public to bear with us. We will be mobilising our water tankers so that they respond to areas that could be without water."
