Pinetown taxi hijacker nabbed by police

A one-time taxi driver has been arrested after attempting to steal a minibus taxi with eight passengers on board in Pinetown.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says the 39-year-old man jumped into the vehicle at the Simunye Taxi Rank and sped off.
But security guards at the rank acted quickly and gave chase.
Zwane says they pursued the man all the way to New Germany.
"Security guards that were working at the rank chased the former taxi driver in New Germany. It is alleged that the man abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. It's alleged that a security guard started to shoot towards this man and he was shot on his leg. He was taken to hospital under police guard," Zwane said.

Pinetown police are investigating a case of attempted murder and the theft of a motor vehicle.
The passengers were unharmed.
