Pinetown residents have described the moment a runaway truck came crashing through their properties last night - sending them running and ducking for cover.

The truck was earlier involved in a multi-vehicle pile-up on Stapleton Road.

The 50-year-old driver got back into the vehicle after speaking to police - but something went wrong.

In a video of the incident, the truck can be seen rolling forward and pushing the wreckage of another car in the process.

Paramedics say the truck driver jumped out of the moving vehicle, but he hit his head on the ground and died from the impact.

The truck is seen gaining momentum as panicked onlookers start to scream.

It then crashes through the wall of Sizakele Mkhanye's home.

She says she saw it coming through her security camera.

"I was screaming and grabbing my husband and saying we should run to the bathroom because this trucking is coming into our bedroom then I heard a bang."

Mkhanye shares the wall with her neighbour, Natalie Chazvemba.

"First we heard the smaller crashes up the road then suddenly there was this louder crash. My husband went out and sees this truck rammed into the corner of my dad's house."

The Transport MEC visited the accident scene and says the probe will also look into a possible upgrade of the road infrastructure there.
